Murray Equipment is seeking an experienced and skilled Purchasing Agent/ Buyer. This person should have 10+ years prior purchasing experience. Responsible for procuring components, equipment, tooling, and services at the appropriate quality and optimum price for delivery within the proper time frame. Successful candidates will be motivated, self-directed/ self-starters. A successful Buyer will be detail-oriented and dependable, can follow instructions and consistently produce good work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, qualify, and select suppliers necessary for the procurement of inventory, processes, and services necessary for commerce according to company standards.
  • Purchases raw materials, tooling, and components for custom and standard inventory as well as materials, office supplies, and equipment needed for day-to-day operations.
  • Build and maintain good business-supplier relationships and seek out new or alternate suppliers as required.
  • Provide information to Sales, Production, and Engineering regarding part qualities, cost, and delivery on a timely basis.
  • Periodically check inventory to ensure accuracy. Identify possible reasons for inventory inaccuracies
  • Prepare and forward complete and accurate purchase orders according to company guidelines.
  • Expedite and follow up on purchase orders as required to meet customer expectations.
  • Resolve order and billing discrepancies in coordination with accounting and suppliers and responds to inquiries on any material received.
  • Coordinate and participate in physical inventory count and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and transmit requests for quotes for items to be purchased.
  • Ensure suppliers can provide products that meet the necessary internal technical requirements.
  • Process returned purchased items that are not acceptable or do not meet specifications.
  • Interface with management concerning new products and forecasts for new and existing products.
  • Maintain organized and updated information for purchases, suppliers, and inventories i.e part costs, lead times, and life cycle.
  • Follow up on supplier incidents, shortages, damaged items, and discrepancies with supplier, and maintains related documentation.
  • Initiate and distribute change notices for purchased items such as changes in specifications, part numbers, and sources.
  • Interface with the Shipping/Receiving department regarding incoming and outgoing shipments daily.
  • Support billing and accounts payable when necessary. Adjust duties, responsibilities, and objectives as business warrants.
  • Set up and maintain part numbers and BOMs.
  • Coordinate with production on the scheduling and releasing of production orders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely flow of information and parts across company divisions.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 10+ years of related purchasing and buying experience from a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
  • Prior diversified business experience required.
  • Prior Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) required
